What is the cause of Poverty? In this paper I will discuss the causes for those below the poverty line in America set by the census bureau and how we might begin fixing them and how they are already being fixed. I believe these issues are able to be helped but they need to be clarified and addressed properly. Currently in America there are 46.2 million people currently listed as impoverished according to the Census Bureau. As such first we need to look at the causes for poverty for nationally. In America the number one cause of poverty is single mothers. â€Å"C hild poverty is an ongoing national concern, but few are aware of its principal cause: the absence of married fathers in the home. According to the U.S. Census, the poverty rate for single parents with children in the United States in 2009 was 37.1 percent. The rate for married couples with children was 6.8 percent.† (Heritage Foundation, Robert Rector) ~~~HEINER SQUARE~~~ This is also worsened by the fact that women are paid on average 7% less tha n their male counterparts according to Forbes. So what first needs to be done is that wages are equalized; doing this one thing would go a long way to helping these women out of their impoverished situation. The next step is to keep women from having babies out of wedlock, and while measures have begun being taken to avoid these situations; (ex. sex ed.) but it won’t ever be truly dealt with since humans aren’t machines.
